It is all of the other stuff that breaks that will make you get rid of the car. 89 bmw 325i loved this car another one that the odometer quit around 160k and my daughter drove it another year and a half before the timing chain broke and destroyed a couple of valves. My last car not a bmw lasted 225k miles with little to no maintenance regular oil changes kept up on the routine stuff and had a great roadside mechanic. If you are willing to spend the money replace the engine and the car will go another 200000 miles. A well maintained x5 will run for at least 200000 miles.
